Bugeilo’s Gwenith Gwyn （Watching the White Wheat） 

今天是傳統節氣中的 “芒種”，北國大地可以開始期待夏小麥的結實了。在暖風熏人的初夏夜裡，我們來聽寧靜悠遠的威爾斯民謠 《Watching the White Wheat》。

這首歌源自 18世紀的威爾斯。歌詞描述年輕的農民工 Wil 和農場主的女兒 Ann 在月光下的銀白色麥浪中訂情，無奈 Ann 的母親堅決不允，強迫她另嫁。Wil 遠走他鄉數月後，夢到 Ann 有變故，急忙趕回，卻只見到奄奄一息的 Ann，最終在 Wil 懷裡逝去。

下面比較四個不同的版本，從獨唱到合唱，在鋼琴、豎琴、管弦樂等不同伴奏配合下所帶來的不同效果。

2. 下面聽英國 The King’s Singers 的合唱版。這是由英國作曲家/指揮家魯特 （John Rutter，1945－） 所編曲。魯特擅長處理合唱作品，曾編寫多首聖樂及美國黑人靈歌，以不同的元素來擴展合唱的領域。The King’s Singers 早年許多曲目都是由他所編。這首曲子一開始，豎琴聲讓夏夜愈發沉靜，男中音領唱出深沉遼闊，飽含土地的力量，也唱出了對美好愛情的嚮往和懷念。接下來的和聲讓人深深感動，忍不住一聽再聽：（2:38）

3. 英國樂壇傳奇湯姆瓊斯 （Tom Jones，1940- ） 也來自威爾斯，下面是他在家鄉小酒館裡和 Treorchy Male Choir 的鄉親們一同高歌。當年的民謠大概就是這樣借着一杯杯黑啤酒唱出來的吧：(2:38)
