Weather: Sunny, 36-50F (2-10C)
On a clear and sunny Saturday afternoon, my wife suggested going for a walk or shopping. We decided to go to the Outlet to do both. On our way, we passed Marsh Creek State Park and decided to take a walk there first.
When we arrived at the park, there were very few visitors, likely due to the cold and windy weather. We walked along the riverside trail, with the cold wind howling past our ears. The down jackets kept our bodies warm, but our ears, exposed to the wind, soon felt frozen.
The autumn scenery by the river was mesmerizing. The blue sky was dotted with white clouds, and the bright sun hung high in the sky. Tall, slender wild grass, now yellowed with the onset of autumn, grew along the riverbank. The park had cleared a green grass path through the dried grass for visitors to walk on. The golden sunlight spilled over the yellowed grass, and when the wind blew, the slender grass swayed like waves, resembling a stretch of golden sea. Against the light, the golden grass appeared semi-transparent, especially at the tips, looking like golden feathers or small, translucent grains swaying in the wind.
The blue lake water was rippled by the strong wind. The narrow lake allowed a clear view of the green lawns, yellow withered bushes, and green woods on the opposite shore. I couldn’t help but hum the melody of “On the Other Side of the Water”:
Green grass lush,
White mist vast,
A beautiful lady,
Stands by the water.

There were few visitors along the way, a stark contrast to the bustling summer days. An elderly gentleman with white hair had set up a tripod and was taking photos. As a photography enthusiast, I chatted with him. Coincidentally, we both used Nikon DSLR cameras and exchanged some tips. I mentioned that more people are now buying mirrorless cameras. He said that because many are switching to mirrorless, it’s a great time to buy second-hand DSLR lenses, and he was testing a newly bought lens. On the way back to the parking lot, we heard voices by the river and saw a few young anglers.
Due to the cold and windy weather, we didn’t stay long at the park. We were delighted to unexpectedly discover such a beautiful spot, truly a “no effort at all” find. We hope to return next year around this time to enjoy the beautiful scenery again.
